Fort Lauderdale information
LOCODE: USFLL
Port Everglades is located in Fort Lauderdale, Broward County, on Florida's Atlantic coast. It is one of the world's busiest cruise ports and serves mainly as a turnaround port, with millions of passengers beginning and ending their holidays here each year. Some cruises also include it as a port of call. The port is divided into the Northport, Midport and Southport areas, with several modern cruise terminals used by different cruise lines, making embarkation and disembarkation efficient even on the busiest days.
Often called the "Venice of America" thanks to its network of more than 150 miles of inland waterways. Canals, marinas and waterfront homes give the city a distinctive coastal character, while the nearby Atlantic Ocean provides long stretches of sandy beaches. Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport is only a short drive from the cruise terminals, making transfers quick and convenient for arriving and departing passengers.
The city enjoys a warm, tropical climate throughout the year. Summers are hot and humid, while winters are generally mild and sunny. Lightweight clothing, comfortable footwear and sun protection are useful for most visits, whether you are exploring the city before your cruise or spending time ashore after returning.
Fort Lauderdale Beach is known for its wide promenade, lined with cafés, restaurants and shops overlooking the Atlantic. Las Olas Boulevard is one of the city's best known streets, with galleries, boutiques, bars and local restaurants spread beneath shady trees. The nearby Riverwalk follows the New River and offers pleasant walks past parks, marinas and waterfront dining.
Nature is never far away. The nearby Everglades provide an opportunity to explore one of Florida's most famous landscapes, with airboat tours passing through wetlands that are home to alligators, manatees and a wide variety of birdlife. Visitors interested in culture can also spend time at the Museum of Discovery and Science or the NSU Art Museum.
Local food reflects Fort Lauderdale's coastal setting and its strong Caribbean and Latin American influences. Fresh seafood is a favorite, with ceviche, grouper sandwiches and locally caught fish appearing on many menus, while Colombian and Caribbean flavors add plenty of variety for visitors looking to dine before or after their cruise.
